The New 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV
The CX-70 PHEV is hitting showrooms for the first time in 2025, so there’s no model to compare it to from the previous year. Its dimensions are modeled on the gas-powered CX-70, which has been part of the Mazda lineup for several years. However, the Mazda CX-70 PHEV has a new powertrain and other upgrades that set it apart from its gas-powered predecessor.
Range and Performance
All CX-70 PHEV models are equipped with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine matched with a single electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery pack. They combine to put out 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. For a big vehicle such as the CX-70, this provides plenty of power for you to move off the line or pass at highway speeds. All-wheel drive comes standard in the CX-70, giving you plenty of capability in all weather conditions.
When you’re driving the Mazda CX-70 PHEV, the powertrain is good for 56 MPGe combined. That’s a significant improvement over gas-only vehicles of the same size. For example, the gas-powered CX-70 achieves a maximum of 28 mpg on the highway or 24 mpg on city roads.
Charging and Battery Life
The CX-70 is a plug-in hybrid, which means you can travel for a short distance on all-electric power. With the battery fully charged, you can achieve 26 miles with the electric engine before the gas-powered engine kicks in. Depending on your route to work, this could be adequate to allow you to complete your daily commute using just the battery. It takes 11 hours to charge using a household power outlet, or you can get it from 20% to 80% in about 90 minutes using a Level 2 charging station.
You can install a Level 2 charger at home for an additional cost or find a station at a public site. Choosing to rely on Level 1 or Level 2 charging will largely depend on how you use your vehicle. If you can charge your CX-70 overnight after each work day, a Level 1 charger may suffice. But if you want to travel further during the day than your all-electric battery allows, you’ll need to rely on a faster Level 2 charger to replenish the battery before your next trip. Alternatively, you can of course rely on the CX-70 PHEV’s gas-powered engine.
Interior Features and Materials
The CX-70 interior is upscale and spacious. It features heated and power-adjustable front seats, leather upholstery throughout, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. At the rear, loading the CX-70 is straightforward thanks to the hands-free power liftgate. Entertainment is taken care of with a 12.3-inch touch screen and a 12-speaker premium stereo. You can also look forward to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a navigation system, and wireless device charging. With the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, you’ll be able to monitor your CX-70 PHEV’s performance, including its battery life.
Behind the second row, you’ll benefit from 39.6 cubic feet of storage space. As a result, you can easily carry the things you’ll need for your vacation or a weekend out of town. If you’re transporting bulkier items, such as during a home move, you can fold down the second row of seats to open up 75.3 cubic feet of storage space.
Mazda has equipped the CX-70 with a wide variety of safety features. Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are designed to help you avoid accidents in an emergency. When you hit heavy traffic, the stop-and-go adaptive cruise control feature can adjust your speed and brake to help maintain your position. Lane departure warning and lane-keep assist help you stay on the right track when you’re on the highway. You also benefit from front and rear parking sensors, allowing you to maneuver the CX-70 PHEV into a tight parking spot.
Trims and Pricing
There are two trims in the CX-70 PHEV’s lineup: the Premium and Premium Plus. We’ve already taken a detailed look at what’s offered with the Premium trim, which is the base trim in the lineup. It’s starting MSRP is $54,400 before any optional add-ons. If you choose the Premium Plus, it starts at $57,450 and offers nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. A surround-view parking camera gives you improved control over the parking process, while the automatic emergency braking feature is extended to cover reverse braking as well.
Once you’ve decided which trim you’d like, you can check out our competitive auto financing options. We have a variety of auto loan packages, enabling us to put a plan together that meets your needs.
